what is this leak and where is it coming from?

I have discovered a new leak coming from my rig. The leak is coming from a point between where the transmission and the engine meet. (I dont know if its leaking from a tube or from the trans or the engine.) Anyway It drips down on the exhaust and it winds up smoldering and it gives the rig the appearance that it is on fire. What the heck is it and where could it be coming from? I have no idea what type of fluid it is as the drips are periodic and it drips onto the exhaust and smolders before I can tell if its trans fluid or oil.

    Could be:

    Leaking Rear Main Seal
    Tranny seal (oil pump)
Valve cover leaking at rear, dripping down and giving the appearance that it is the Rear Main Seal

Do you not have any type of puddle underneath after you park it?

no honestly there is no puddle Once the rig stops running the leak stops. whatever it may be. It only leaks when the rig os running. or at least it appears so. I think tonight I will climb under and see if there are any leaks and see if it leaks when the rig is off. (last I checked the leaks stops when the engine is off)

check everything under the chassis after you've driven it. I would think you'd have "some" residue collecting on some of the underside components. In fact, wear a nice shirt; oil is guaranteed to leak on it then!!

Is it worse when you stop after driving on a freeway?
My rear main seal leaked. When I would drive onthe freeway the oil would collect in the transmission case where the torque converter is.
WHen I stopped, enough would have colleted that it would lead out on the exhaust and a bunch of smoke would result.
