    Bed Swap

    Possibly buying a step side bed off a 66 J200 question is will it bolt onto my 71 J4000 fleet side. Thanks

    Is the Thriftside bed a short or long one? The 8' Thriftsides are quite rare, as I recall. Somewhere in that era there is a wheelbase change, with the same lengths of bed but a different location for the axle.

    I believe '71 is 120" (7' bed) and 132" (8' bed). It looks like the wheelbase change (119" & 131") is after 1971, likely 1974. Unfortunately I do not have a reference that tells me the '66 wheelbases, and I can't confirm 100%.

      A J200 will have a 7' bed, your J4000 is an 8' bed truck.

      J200/J2000 are all 120" wheelbase. J4000 is 132". J300/J3000 are all 126" except for the J3000 Camper Truck which is 132".
