Fuel line size

What size is the fuel line supposed to be on a '79 J10 with a 360? I just ordered a new gas tank and they told be all J10s used 3/8" for the fuel feed (that's also the size on the feed line of their replacement sending unit). They said "some" CJ's used 5/16", but not the J10. I'm sure mine is 5/16" now and the correct fuel filter for my vehicle (per Napa's site) also lists 5/16" for the inlet and outlet on the filter. I was assuming I had 5/16" inlet and 1/4" return. Since I'm completely redoing the fuel system, I'd like to set it back to the right size.

All Jeeps (except for the L134/F134 models) used 5/16" feed and 1/4" return, AFAIK.

Ok, so the plot thickens for those Jeep trivial buffs. It appears that even though the fuel hard-line on mine is 5/16", the sending unit outlet is 3/8". Even some fuel pumps for some years and models have 3/8" inlets.

I scoured the parts book for 74-80 models and found illustration 4.160-5a most interesting. It's listed as a 3/8" to 5/16" fuel line reducer. It appears to be about 4" long and attaches the sender outlet to the frame hardline. It's part number 948861 and applies to 74-79 models.

I'm going to upgrade my system to 3/8" all the way (using marine grade fuel hose) and eliminate all these junctions to the fuel pump.

All the supply line on my 1969 jJ3700 is 3/8. The return is 1/4.
