how to install steering column trim

    76 j10- truck.

the 2 part "ring" or "collar"

that trims out the steering column below instrument panel.

can't remember removing, not sure how to re install

just noticed the tabs are broken on mine at bottom

    need a replacement with tabs,....

so: do you place the two part ring on column, attach 2 screws inside the collar

then slide down and screw onto bottom of dash frame ?

There is not a piece of brittle plastic in my was OTHER THAN THOSE TABS

Wound up using this to repair: https://www.polyvance.com/step3f.php

Smelly smelly stuff, but worked great.

I don't know if yours is the same as my '84, but I believe I screwed the bottom one in first, and then got underneath and screwed the top piece to the bottom.

Yup - nutmeg. Interior is actually in really nice shape though I'll need to get the front seats reupholstered at some point.

Realized you can actually see the tab repair in that last photo - made a mirror image from the opposing side then sprayed it with some color I mixed to match.

Bottom part goes on first, then from under the dash you screw the top part on.

                    thanx rang.

looked like a puzzle to me.

will a stubby screw driver work on 2nd part ?

or do I need a 90 degree angle screw driver, I have one SOMEWHERE ?

I think I used a long screw driver. I am pretty sure the lower piece goes on with the 2 screws that face the seat, then from underneath you put the top on and screws are angled down and forward toward the pedals...
