Was v8 4spd an option in 80 on a j10

Buying a 1980 j10 off the internet and it's supposed to have a v8 4spd and it's a 1980. I thought that you could only get the stick with the 258? Was it optional or did someone swap it in (it's definitely a 1980 brow and drivers side drop front)?

360V8/T-176 four speed was an option on the 80 J10.

Yep. Although it's the top loader meant for the V8 engines, a T-177? T-178? Different ratios from the T-176 used in CJs, and sporting the infamous long input shaft.

The Jeep top loaders (T-176 etc) are medium-duty passenger car transmissions. They are top shifter 4-speeds, but no granny gear. 1979 was the last year for the T-18 truck 4-speed in the J-10.

I have not been able to get a good look at the transmission yet as the springs are bowed the wrong way and I can't get a creeper and me under there. It has a 304 in it so there is no telling. Motor mounts looks factory though so I'm guessing they swapped out a 360 at some point so probably the crappy t17*.

My '83 Honcho was stock 360/T177/NP208 but the J20s '80 up came with V8 and (Ford) T18/NP208 option.
