    J-truck tail light lenses

Can someone please verify if there were different style tail light lenses on the '74 and up J-trucks? I just sold a NOS set to a guy that I had bought for my '74. His is a '76, and he says that his are longer and have four screw holes instead of two.

I want to make it right with the guy, if he doesn't have something screwy going on.

Can't say for sure what the 74 used, thought they were all the same. I can tell you that any J Truck Lense I have ever had has always had 4 holes.

I swapped lenses from a 78 to my 73; it was my understanding the 73 up were all the same.

Ditto that. 73-88 all used the same tail light.

Have him ship them over to me, and I will check them out for dimentional correctness, I am always glad to help a fellow Jeeper in need, we can get to the bottom of this issue.
I will even be happy to show pictures of them installed (purely for checking purposes on my truck).

sport sides, or whatever the outside flair type beds are called used round lenses, or maybe the cj style generic lenses, but not the ones above. maybe that's the issue.
Those stock ones are getting hard to find, i am hoarding as many as i can, no they're not for sale either.

True. But there wasn't a Thriftside/Sportside made in 76. Could have swapped a bed on I guess. Maybe a 72- Townside style bed with the round taillights.

How could that long lens even stay on if it only had two screwholes? Sounds fishy to me.

Ok, then I am really confused. The pics he sent me of his truck (this is after he received the ones I sent him) look like the one Pete posted. I will see if he can send me some pics of the lenses that I sent him.

The ones you had wouldn't have happened to have looked like this, would they?

These are ford lenses. They look a little like Jeep lenses, are shorter, and are held on with two screws.

Uh, oh. Looks like I am the one that's been took! I'm waiting on pics from him, because I can't remember. I bought them off ebay a looong time ago for my J20. I just grabbed them up out of my stash, and shipped them off. Wow, don't I feel stooopid!

Well they could be Ford lenses, but I believe if they were they would have said Ford on them. My guess is though that if they are an AMC Part, you may have had Chero or Waggy lenses, as they are held on with 2 screws as well
