    Seat swap

I've looked thru the comments/responses in the "Topic of the Month" but I'm not sure my answer is there.
I want to take a good set of low-back power bucket seats from an '83 Wagoneer and put them in my '83 J-20 pickup which now has the bench seat. Is this a direct swap? I have the wiring harness. A friend did the swap using a set with headrests but without the headrests on them, but the brackets won't align because the seat backs hit the back of the cab. Can I expect the same problem?

I am thinking yes, because the cherokees had ALOT more space behind the front seats than the trucks did, so my guess is yes.

      lugnut,
i acquired a pair of free grand waggy high back bucket power seats a couple of weeks ago. i haven't tried to put them in my j10 yet. it was just lastnight that i hooked up power to them on my garage floor to make sure they both work.
without them being in the truck, i can't tell that there may be a problem hitting the back of the cab. however, they also tilt forward quite a bit.
i already know the power brackets will bolt to the floor no problem. but, what i was thinking of doing was getting a pair of the bestop replacement seats and bolting them to the power brackets. the bestop sport seats have a recliner knob. now, we can't use that to recline in the trucks. however, we can also use that knob to set the seat nearly straight up if you wanted to. i'm thinking that may give it enough room behind the seat. i myself hate driving in a reclined position. so, that wouldn't bother me.

I have put GW seats in two different trucks, j10 and j20 which are the same. The problem with the wag seats are the backs are too thick, they will work but unless you are about a 100 lbs and about 5'2" they will be against the back of the cab. I have power seats in the j20 but I'm going to try the seats from a Escort GT or seats from an XJ the backs on both are very thin compared to the GW seats.
I put power leather seats from a 90 GW in my 75 Wag and they are great. The pull and save here only charges $20 for a set of bucket seats in perfect shape so its not a big deal to try something different.
I will put the Escort seats on the power frames from the GW. To put the GW seats in you just have to drill two holes in each seat (thru the floor) to make the holes line up, which is no big deal. Its really worth it too be comfortable, I hate bench seats, so it was the first thing I did.
