jeep gladiator truck HOLLYWOOD BANK SHOOTOUT

This may already have been posted

      but while on youtube today

I looked at the footage from the north Hollywood shootout from 20+ years ago

when they were having the shootout with the last robber

he was next to a gladiator with door open

rhino grill in full view in some angles,....

      will post photo soon....

man that was a hairy shootout
they say they are better equipped today with automatic guns.

but recently it seems they have to stand by and let crooks loot.

This intrigued me so I looked it up. Here is what Wiki says about it

Mătăsăreanu's vehicle was rendered inoperable after two of its tires were shot out and the windshield covered in bullet holes.[16] At 9:56 am, he attempted to carjack a yellow 1963 Jeep Gladiator on Archwood by shooting at the driver, who fled on foot, three blocks east of where Phillips died. He quickly transferred all of his weapons and ammunition from the getaway car, but was unable to operate the Jeep due to the driver engaging the electrical kill switch before fleeing. As KCBS and KCAL helicopters hovered overhead, a patrol car driven by SWAT officers Donnie Anderson, Steve Gomez, and Richard Massa quickly arrived and stopped on the opposite side of the truck to where the Chevrolet was stopped. Mătăsăreanu left the truck, took cover behind the original getaway car, and engaged them in a two-and-a-half minutes of almost uninterrupted gunfire. Mătăsăreanu's chest armor deflected a double tap from SWAT officer Anderson, which briefly winded him before he continued firing. Anderson fired his AR-15 below the cars and wounded Mătăsăreanu in his unprotected lower legs; he was soon unable to continue and put his hands up to show surrender

They shot the crap out of that poor truck I wonder what ever became of it.

I took the liberty of taking some snips of that part of the shootout.

First is when Mătăsăreanu (the bank robber) sees the truck, stops and shoots at the truck

The driver of the truck jumps out and runs away, you can see him running in this picture

Mătăsăreanu then drives the white car up to the truck and gets in it and is obviously having trouble with it

It would have been much easier if he had just carjacked one of the several cars that went around him during the time he first stopped the truck and the cops arrive.

        which is what happened next

when they arrived he got out of the truck and hid behind his car and started shooting

Well really I think the cops started first because you can see bullets hitting the trucks windshield as he is getting out but then it turns into an outright gun battle

If you look close you can see the puffs as the bullets are hitting the truck

Then I guess he reaches the point where his legs are too badly wounded to continue and he lays down the weapon and puts his hands up. The cops then come around the truck and attack him

This last picture is the cops kicking the crap out of Mătăsăreanu before handcuffing him and leaving him there for the next 70 minutes to bleed out because the ambulance wasn't allowed to come into the danger zone.

Here is the only picture I have found of the front of the truck after the shootout

I found the owners name was Bill Marr and I wonder where that truck is today

Kill switch? Probably more like the shooter did not know the custom 14 step process to start that particular FSJ. He probably thought you just turned the key and it started! HAHAHA! Rookie move!

The real rookie move was choosing an FSJ in the first place. I found one video where they had a very short interview with Bill Marr, the trucks owner and they say he took the keys with him, so maybe there wasn't actually a kill switch other than the ignition switch on the dash.

In that documentary they did give a close up of the trucks windshield

In spite of all I've done to my truck my door panels are currently off, it drives my wife crazy since mew panels were made when the seat was reupholstered.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, I enjoyed looking it up. Sure glad I wasn't anywhere near there.

I found his choice odd given that he actually physically stopped a car prior to the truck that he could have easily taken. I also found it odd that with gunfire and police everywhere at least 3 cars went around him as if this was a normal thing while he was getting in and trying to start the truck.

Not sure if tv shows count. Virgin river on Netflix has a sweet pre 86 GW on several shows. It is like a hallmark channel drama so most of you guys probably have not seen it.

During the last minutes of the movie Deja Vu Starring Denzel Washington a Bronco plowed its way off a ferry ship. During this I believe I saw the back end of a Wagoneer, I think it was a light blue color. It may have gotten hit by the Bronco as it looked like it was in its path. This all happened very quickly.

                                A shameless self-plug here!

This is my Wagoneer in the background of one of the Coca Cola Zero Sugar commercials.

I had to take a day off work, drive three hours there, then wait around in the freezing cold from 12:00pm to 2:00am (14 hours!), before driving another three hours home!
I nearly fell asleep on the drive home, then got home to find that my girlfriend had left the key in the door and I couldn't get in the house!
All that, just so my Wagoneer could be an unrecognizable blur for 10 seconds in the background of a terrible commercial!
