So are there any parts on the early 80's f250 TTB front axle that worth keeping? Does anything interchange or swap over to more useable axles? Only reason I ask is my dad has found a rolling frame from a early 80's 4x4 f250 diesel. (for the dana 70 rear that I am looking for) He was just gonna get the rear axle for me, but said he could give the guy a little bit more and just take the whole thing, if it would be worth it. He said it has lockouts and the hubs look pretty good sized (kinda like the ones on the D60 front I scored) and asked me if there were any parts off this front end I might could use. He hasnt got it yet, just wondering if we should get just the rear or the whole thing. I dont know anything about those funky TTB front axles and I didnt know if anything like steering knuckles, spindles, hubs, brake parts or anyhting else like that would be worth keeping? I figured I would ask yall. If there is nothing worth keeping then I will tell him just to grab the rear axle. (its in VA so I cant see it for myself or take any pics) Just figured it might be worth a shot.

Bart has been talking about trying to build a buggy using the duel ford ttbs, but with all the work he has taken on it'll be 3007 before he can look at another he sayscharlie

the rest of the TTB is not completely useless,if youre crafty
you can use the goofy knuckles to make your own front 60 or 70. it take some fabbing, and the ball joints maybe arent quite as strong as a real front 60,and it maybe looks alittle goofy, but if the end result is a 60 or 70 diff with 35 spline shafts and big u joints it fits the bill.

That's a great link Scotty. Pretty cool idea that guy had. Reminds me that I need to get over to Pirate more often.Thomas Russell

yup, lots of good info over there. ive had that idea for awhile now. ive got a rear 70 housing and a TTB 50 in my friends garage, just need to find some time to put it together and make it work. it was nice to see someone actually do it and make it work sos i know im not wasting my time.
the big worry i had was the camber with the TTB ends, but looks like thats not gonna be too big an issue.scotty

Yeah the guy building that thing doesn't seem concerned about the camber.
It will be interesting to see how it holds up. This would be a sweet (cheap) way to end up with D70 or even 14b front ends. I sort of like the hi-nine idea someone had. Not for me, but something like that would go well under my cousins TJ.Thomas Russell

Very interesting thread. A little more work than I want to do, esp since I already found a good 60 front. I just figured I would check before I wrote it off. Gonna call and tell him just to get the 70 rear and not worry about the front.79 Cherokee Chief 401/T18/D20, MPFI fuel injection, hydroboost, otherwise stock.

I believe that the front spindles/backing plate/ etc. are swapable to Ford High pinion 44. Swap to 8 lug and throw a floater in the rear and your done.
Just make sure the rear end is not a Dana 61.....The 84 F250 (460-no diesel) parts truck I had was sportin the 61 and the front had Dana 44 hubs NOT 60 hubs.Jeep is gone ~~ Ranger cab truck in the works

BTW, I have a beater Jcab M715 on a F250 chassis with hot rod 460, etc. It has the Dana 50 TTB up front. I have had that truck airborn and have thrashed the crap out of the truck for years and never had any issue with the front axle.Last edited by FSJeeper; 01-26-2007, 08:59 AM.In Process: 91 Wagoneer, D61/71 axles with 3.07 gearing, NV4500, NP205. The truck I had was 44 out .
More useless info
We just pulled a low pinion 44 out of a mid 70s high boy and put the 8 outers on a high pinion 5 lug 44. Pretty cool because you don't have to swap knuckles.Jeep is gone ~~ Ranger cab truck in the works

So your saying that if it is the M50 TTB, that the spindles, hubs and lockouts will be the same as the ones on the 79 HP 60 front that I just picked up? Or is it only the hubs? It would be kinda nice to have a set of spare hubs, but dont know if it would be worth all the trouble.
Scotty, only thing I worry about would be the shipping part. Those would weigh a ton and shipping would probably be super high. Looking for a little more concrete info on parts interchange before I make the call to bring home just the rear or the whole thing.79 Cherokee Chief 401/T18/D20, MPFI fuel injection, hydroboost, otherwise stock.
