Found bearing in oil pan. Maybe swapping to a mid 70s 350 chevy. Is there a bell housing kit for mating with 727? Any other complications? thanks

If I were going to bother swapping to a Chevy it'd be something modern.
Wasn't the mid 70's the approaching of the low point in Detroit engine design?Sic friatur crustulum

If you're going to swap to chevy @ least do a later roller cam engine.
You can snag a 5.3LS dirt cheap around here
But an adapter gonna add $500 easy to a swap if keeping 727.
Will need to roll your own TV cable setup to keep 727 too.
You could also fix whatcha got as well.
Probably just cam bearings...
Nothing wrong with fixing an old engine either.Tony

I'm an old GM fan...but....There are rules for swapping an old Chev 350 into a FSJ, Ford or even a Chryco truck. You must paint a large generic bar code on the doors.
I like GM350's, good motors but sheesh just cause you found a piece of insert bearing in the pan your next jump is to "off brand eng swap?"
AMC V8's aren't my favorite motors but they're still decent period motors.
Fix what ya got. A lot cheaper and a lot less grief.joe

That's kind of where I started. My oil pressure was low so and I knew my mains were shot (I saw copper when doing my rear main seal). When I tore down, my cam bearings were as bad as my mains. Your mechanic is right. Do them ALL (mains, rods, cam) AND do your rings while you're in there.Chuck McTruck 71 J4000
