A little whine on the highway, to be expected. I wheeled them in Moab last month and go great on slick rock with 12lb air.

Well, I got the front axle and springs out of the j20, and the springs off the axle. Then I started prepping the wag's axles. Torched off the springs, shocks, and driveshafts. Then pulled the axle shafts out to get the hubs/drums off. Got that done and drove the studs out to get rid of the drums. Just slid the hubs back on for now. Then we torched off the ubolts from the front 44 and pulled the calipers off so it'll roll. Now to get the wag in my possession and get it back together. Now for picture time.....

How she drove to her dismantling:

Brush guard and tires removed with stands under frame:

              Something is missing:

The new Wag axles, HD44(GM) and 14bolt:

Changed the pics to links because they're huge.
              Where is my axle?

We want to drive it, but he's waiting his turn in the garage.

Finally tackled the water pump leak on the 85.... and found a couple bolts missing under the non functional AC compressor.... and plenty of silicone.... I could not install new bolts back due to the silicon packed into the threads of the missing bolts -amazing, it never leaked- ... and clean all the grease that had built under the AC bracket... aaaaack.
So I had to pull the timing cover, the timing chain tested OK... when looking at the distributor... but when the cover was off.... a new chain was needed... and it must have been the OEM chain at 205K, the timing gears were OEM, still have the jeep part #... later I can post a pict of a good timing gear....

I decided not to reinstall the AC comp, the battery ground was now too short... upon reinstalling the PS belt, the vacuum advance nipple was touching the belt... I timed it before installing the belt and it ran fine... so quiet without the PS and the air pump..... so I had to reclock the distributor... and swaped #4 and 8 wires... so it ran like crap... with low vacuum manifold at 15" and backfiring until I rechecked everything... with all the hoses replaced there was only one loose one.... But the connector for the rear heater hose on the intake manifold is getting seriously rusted... the one with the 5 port vacuum switch....

74 wag, 349Kmiles on original ticker/trany, except for the rust. Will it make it to the next get together without a rebuilt? Status: needs a new body.
85 Gwag, 229 Kmiles. $250 FSJ test lab since 02, that refuses to give up but still leaks.

Finally got to the point of removing the bad trans and I prepped the new one for installation. Old on the left, newer (19k miles) on the right.
