Ax-15 Speedo....

Well I got my Ax-15 in and waiting on a clutch pedal in the mail (Thanks Trex20165) Now I guess its time to address the speedometer issue. Not sure what to do since I'm going from mechanical to electrical. I really dont like the look of autometer gauges or something like that in my GW. Any other solutions?? Also if I change out the speedometer, what about mileage, I would like to have the actual mileage on there as I am proud of my 230,000 miles...lol

The speedometer is driven off the gear in the transfer case. Did you swap out the t-case as well. If you retained your original t-case then nothing changes with the speedo. If you did then there are a few companies that make elescrtic drivers for mechanical speedo's.

Hesco also makes an adapter that is basically a hybrid cable/electronic vss. It is identical to the vs found in a 91 wrangler. I found one in a part out for 35 bucks.

I am assuming you are running some sort of ful injection that needs a VSS input? Or are you just swapping to a newer TC?

Wow, I'm an idiot...sorry I was exhausted last night and deff forgot to mention I have a NP231 (99 Cherokee) in there now. No need for a Vehicle Speed Sensor, still running the carb, just want to know how fast I'm going and how far I've gone.

It is still gear driven, just has an elecrical plug instead of the cable port if i'm not mistaken. All you need is a cable style sender and the proper gear and you should be all set. The gear has the tooth count on it and there are plenty of places to get the proper one, but they aren't cheap unless somebody here has one to sell you once you know what the correct tooth count for your app is.

Nice I didnt know if cable driven ones existed for the 231. I'm guessing the charts for the Tj's and stuff would be the same except they dont have the correct gearing listed. Cant find a chart with the exact gear ratio but looks like I need about a 32 tooth gear. Thanks guys!
