Need carb rebuild got some carb rebuild kit questions

Need to rebuild the carb on my J10 with a 258. I guess my first question is what carb do I have? Where can I get a rebuild kit? What comes in the kit? And lastly how difficult is the rebuild? Thanks in advance...Mike

Stock carb will be the Carter BBD. Everything you need to rebuild it will be included in the kit except for the float which you prolly won't need. These carbs are famous for clogged idle tubes so you may want to look at these sites and drill out the tubes while you're in there.

It's a common carb and any parts store can get a kit in one day if they don't have one in stock. Write down the numbers on the tag hooked to one of the body screws to help the sometimes not too bright parts house counter persons.
It's an easy carb to work on. If you've never rebuilt a carb follow the directions that's included in the kit. Lightly turn in the mix screws till they bottom counting the number of turns before you remove them so you have a starting point to get the carb running later. I'd lay everything out on a white towel or such in order as you remove parts. Get a couple cans of carb cleaner and clean everthing well especially the passages etc. Assemble everything in reverse order substituting the new parts for the old. "Don't force or bend anything"...if a part doesn't go back together smoothly figure out why. Cleanliness counts here too. You'll need to tune it once you've got it assembled and back on the truck. These aren't a big deal to rebuild. If you take your time, keep it clean and pay attention to detail you'll do fine.

you should be able to do it, i rebuilt the carburator on my 360 from the diagram- it was in pieces when i bought the jeep- you will definately needs lots of carb cleaner, and i found a small wire brush/toothbrush to be quite helpful also.. and if you screw it up, i'm sure somebody on here can help you fix it..have fun
