Scout or FSJ 727 in front of Scout Dana20

Anyone have any experience swapping in a Scout Dana20 into an FSJ using a Scout tranny?

I'm curious about the bolt patterns on the IH Scout II 727 tranny's used in the late 70's and wether or not they will bolt up directly to an AMC360 or if an adapter is needed.

Also, if an 80's FSJ 727 tranny will bolt up to a Scout Dana20, or if an adapter is needed for that as well.

Basically I scored a ScoutII Dana20 for a good price and ,well, since GM and mopar conversions are so common I'd like to go a little different route....

    Any feedback guys?

You will need a AMC 727 and the scout mainshaft and adaptor to mate a 20 case

as was implied, the bolt pattern for the engine is different between AMC and IH,so youll need to assemble the AMC case with the IH tailshaft and adapter after youve torn down both trannies.

it is ironic, how the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, the scout guys will frequently assemble their IH case with either an AMC or chrysler tailsahft so they can run a jeep d300

IH used AMC 258's in their Scouts as well as IH
          engines.
If the Scout came with the AMC 258, then it sould
bolt up. So the answer is it depends.
Worse case you need a AMC case, and the scout guts
with a AMC 360 flexplate and converter from a 70's amc car.

Thats right Scotty, because IH only used the Dana300 during the final year of production in 1980, so they're hard to find.

I don't care either way. Good parts are good parts. This Jeep is going to have a GM front axle, dodge rear axle and a Scout T-case (tho I might possibly score a BuickTH400/D20 combo from FSJeeper in a month or so...so there is a chance I may not use the Scout case. We'll see.

Again, thanks for the input guys
