New fuel pickup and sending unit problems

Well i just got a new pickup tube and sending unit for my 1979 Wagoneer from Bj's. I was hoping it would be a easy swap but that is not the case. The sending unit is to big for the hole just barely and the pickup tube the gasket is to thick and won't allow the lockring to close.

Anyone else have these problems or have any slolutions i am at a loss minus grinding away at my new sending unit and pickup tube gasket.

    Thanks
1979 Grand Wagonner w/360, fred flinstone floors and a quarter pannel that needs some love.

    What FSJ do you have?

Is it possible they sent you the wrong part?

Its a 1979 Wagoneer with the 360. I would say they sent the wrong part but they are so close i can't imagine it would be the wrong ones.

I could see the o-ring being really tight, but you shouldn't have to modify or grind the sending unit.

Ya the sending unit we are talking millimeters of not fitting its so close it is frustrating. This dang jeep is kicking my butt up one side of the driveway and down the other.

Have you clean the surface around the tank years of rust and dirt also clean the locking ring also

Use a shop vac if you have one while your cleaning it up or run the risk of dumping crud into your tank...ask me how I know

I returned the craptastic junk they sent for my dad's '79 Cherokee and got quality parts that fit properly from another source.
