distributor gear destroyed

Well Now for another problem.I installed the new timing cover from BJ's and got it running, it ran fine all week and this morning I made it a mile and then it died. I checked for fuel it was good so I checked timing and I turned it over and the distributor wasnt turning, pulled it and all the teeth were stripped off. This is the original gears, I didn't do anything to them, they had a little wear but no noticable damage to warrant replacement. Any idea what would do this.

Your can gear is likely chewed up as well. No fun.

That is a bad feeling. Well, the process of elimination in my mind is that you changed the TC cover. Ummmm...

What in the timing cover would make it eat the gears. the cover seemed to fit fine

Good question

It has been rumored the chinese covers do this. I don't know how much fact there is to that becasue I've never used a chinese cover. There have many quality issues called out on this board with them. Maybe someone more experienced with them would know. I do have to say that is really a short time to kill them. Most say it was a month or so.

There's no doubt the cam gear loks the same.
It's usually bamed on the misalignment of the distributor.

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

a month or so? wouldn't run time have something to do with it.

misalignment of the distributor hole would be the likely culprit.
