Early Type Axle Salvage

I have several axles sets from pre 1974 FSJ's and I simply cannot keep them. I would like to know if there are any desireable or hard to find parts that I might remove before I scrap them. They are currently all for sale as complete at this point but I don't expect any takers. Details can be found in the For Sale Section of this forum.

If any of them have good 12"x2" brake drums I'd keep those. You won't make any real money from them but someday may really help out someone that needs them.

brake drums

I could not find and was told that finding 12" brake drums was next to impossible. There are no aftermarket drums available from what I found. The old drums would need to be welded inside and then turned down again, a very expenive project.

I scrapped the D30 from my '71 a few weeks back. The only part I sold off it was the pass side knuckle. It had the two holes for the steering linkage and is supposed to be desirable for the CJ guys for a steering upgrade. It was the only part I had any interest in.

Staring at metal objects and thinking of ways to make them is a hobby of mine. I once did this with a brake drum and decided that it could be made by cutting off the web and re-welding a piece of DOM tubing to it. That assembly could then be turned in a brake lathe and you should be good to go. This I think would be much easier than welding it up.
