    Several questions- 1979 J10

I'm trying to get my Mother's 1979 J10 running again. It has been sitting mostly for the past 6 or 7 years (I did get it cranked everyoone once and a while and drive it aroud the block). The main issue with it is that it is real hard to crank and runs roughly. And, from what I hear, burns more gas than the average J10. I think my carb probably needs work and I am not sure if the automatic choke works right but I think a lot of my problem is vaccuum leaks. There are vaccuum hoses falling off left and right and I don't know where they should run to or from. I think I have looked through all the archives here and not found a diagram for the 1979 J10 w/ the 360...does anyone have one? Also, I can't find a fuel filler hose and vent hose for this model on the net..can I just use straight hose(made for gas) instead of the pre-bent? Thanks for the advice. Ed

I can suggest you obtain the Factory Service Manual for the 1979 model.
It will answer all of your questions.
The Haynes and Chilton books are not very helpful.

      OK

Thanks Tornado. I will try to find one. Another question if you have time: I can't find the pre-bent fuel filler hose or the vent hose for the J10. Any ideas where to find them on the net or can I just use the regular hose that is made for gasoline and just try not to bend a kink in it? Thanks Ed

That's a good suggestion, but be patient and your questions will get answered on here also. After all, that's what a tech forum is for. Someone will point you toward the proper vac hose routing.

My suggestion would be to try to find a good filler setup at a junkyard. That is the only place that I've had luck although they show up on ebay every now and then and those are from junkyards too.

BJs sellsthe later hoses but I think you would still have the earlier set up which might require a bit of creativity making hose reducers etc.

                  Hoses and diagram

Thanks Dirtball for the diagram. It will certainly help. As far as the hoses for the fuel and fuel vent, I got some straight hose lenghts from a specialty rubber company here in town and was able to snake them through from the filler to the tank without any kinks! Just a little bit of creative routing but it works. Thanks everyone for the help. Now on to the vacuum line ID and replacement. I'll report back, Best regards, Ed
