    1965 Gladiator w/sbc

    Hi all,

Haven't had a FSJ in awhile. Sold my 67 Wagoneer a few years ago. I needed a truck to run to the dump, the hardware store or the woods to cut wood. Might as well get something cool, and doesn't require smoking. Whoever put the Chevy motor (327) in it, blocked the driveline with the exhaust so there was no 4WD. Took care of that with dual exhausts and sorta got the shocks sorted out (they were way too short). Anyway, probably keep this one til I die. . .

Apparently I am a moron, as I can't successfully add a link to a picture. Here is the URL: http://imgur.com/h2n3UJ0

Thanks, I'm pretty fond of it. Needs power steering in the worst way. Gonna try electric. . .

Are you sure you have a Chevy 327 and not the AMC 327? I think the AMC v8 was available in 65. I don't know anything about electric power steering, so I can't help you there. But finding a pump for your motor shouldn't be too hard especially if it's a Chevy. If it's the AMC motor, it will take a bit more searching to find a pump, but they're out there.

I also tried to embed your picture just to help you out and I can't get it to work either. I'm guessing Imgur isn't set up for forum posting just sharing on social media.

Might want to try another image hosting site like photobucket that lets you copy the image link and post it directly.

          Truck looks nice!

If you post a picture of the motor we can ID it, as far as GM 327 vs AMC 327 motors look WAY different, I've had both side by side.

Are you sure it's a Chev 327? If it's a late 65 J2000/3000 it could well be the AMC 327. The serial #, last 5 or 6 digits of the VIN will tell you what the truck came with from the factory. 50,001-199,999 will be the AMC 327 option. As mentioned the AMC and GM 327's don't look remotely similar.

Yep, I'm sure it's a 327 Chevy. According to the VIN it came with the 6 cylinder. Not sure who did the swap. I don't have a clutch cover on it, so I'll have to manufacture one. Whoever did the swap, ran the exhaust in the way of the front drive shaft. Just got that resolved and yep the 4WD works. Fairly steep angle, but I'm not going to hammer it, so I should be fine. Always used Warn hubs in the past, this thing has Selectro hubs. . .I kinda like em!
