Recently picked up an 86 Wagoneer. Been sitting for several years but prior to that had a boat load of work done to it including paint, wood paneling, engine work including reworking the heads and all sorts of misc stuff. Definitely was well taken care of prior to sitting. Bought it with the usual problems. Rust behind the rear wheels, slow windows/non operational/one broken flex track. But luckily I’ve owned a Wagoneer prior and was aware of most of the quirks.
I wasn’t getting fuel to the filter so I drained the old fuel, put a new fuel pump on and sprayed it with some starting fluid and before too long it fired right up. Blew smoke like crazy at first for an awfully long time and I was suspecting head gasket. But I let it sit over the weekend, fired it up again after ditching the smog and emissions stuff to clean up the vacuum lines and no smoke and it purrs like a kitten.
Plan to do some basics, tires, small budget lift, clean up the wood paneling in places. And church up the interior and windows to make it driveable.
I’ll try to post some pictures ASAP but so far off to a good start!
