    Rear shocks

Is the metal sleeve inside the upper bushing necessary?
The bolt is shouldered and I think I'd have to replace the entire bushing to make it work

    ..

It protects the shaft from getting roughed up by dirt and rocks that destroy the seal.
Short term not much of a problem. long term a problem

    Good Luck.. Don S..

Thanks for the reply. The sleeve that fits in the upper rubber shock bushing does not fit on the shouldered mounting bolt. The lower is fine

The upper should not have/use a metal sleeve.
Shock bushing should just slide onto mount. Should be snug fit
