90 GW does VIN tell what color woodgrain is?

I don't have the '90 TSM, but looking at the '89 TSM, there is some information about "packages" in the VIN. There is also an identification plate under the hood with bunch of equipment codes, including the paint and trim. You may need the factory parts book to decode this plate fully.

IF there were more than one variety available each year, I would expect the paint and trim combination to determine the specific wood grain color. The parts book would then specify what to order from Jeep. Unlikely they are going to give a lot of description other than the name that Jeep assigns to that color/style of wood trim, and part numbers for factory replacement parts.

My feeling is you're better off to find a sales brochure from that year to see what the original color was. You may get lucky and find a picture of your year, model, paint and trim with the available wood grain. You're not going to be able to buy an exact replacement, but likely you can look at pictures and get close.

My 1988 brochure doesn't mention any optional interior woodgrain trim color options. None of the resto parts sites mentions anything either. What makes you think there were multiple woodgrain colors available in 1990?

Me or the OP? I don't know. I think it's implicit in the OP's question that he thinks there is a choice. if I had to guess, I'd say there's one type only, that does not change for years.

There was only one color woodgrain on late models 89-ish to 1991.
          Aftermarket has several different colors/patterns.

Unless you stumble on NOS you won't find anything that is exact OEM stuff.
Pick a color you like and run with it.

your wag had "marine teak" vinyl for woodgrain from factory.

best material that is not digitally printed is 3M's current di-noc offering
( comes in a roll, you have to cut panels into shape you need)

it is also called marine teak, the grain is not the same as it was on GW's but the finish is satin, and it looks great. and the color of woodgrain is correct.
best of all it is a factory made 3M product.

it covers any imperfections in body, like small waves, uneven bodywork....

any current reproduction is going to be digitally printed
and it has its limitations,...it is printed on "wrap vinyl" and is glossy
            so it shows any imperfections....

in certain lights it has a green hue,.....
and none of the companies have the grain totally right.

digital printing can't duplicate the way real di-noc vinyl appeared....
it depends on how picky you are,....

you can buy it (3M MARINE TEAK )on eBay from a seller called "metro restyling"
            you can't beat their price....

1st choice is 3M marine teak, di-noc film
2nd, wagon master's repro film ( avoid team grand wagoneer at alL costs )
3rd choice, if you choose any other film than the 2 above
you are asking for disaster, if not now, in the future when you have to re-do it....all over....

            hope this helps

Thanks to all of your responses. I appreciate it. Marine Teak was my guess and a guess at that. So who sells the 3M vinyl? Thanks again.

It looks like you have to pull the license plate light and key switch, is that correct?
Not sure I have skill to make those cuts by leaving them in place.
