    Here is what I do.

1.- the crossmember in the front of the tank was moved 1" (notice the hole of the original position in picture)

2.- custom rear crossmemeber (the original was bendt anyway) that uses the original holes, but is 1" deeper

The side image shows how much it hangs

        Guishe, welcome to IFSJA!!!

It is good to see more international members appearing out there. That is excellent work.... I never thought about making a custom rear crossmember. That is actually a very good idea.

In fact you have some credit too... The first crossmember I made was like the original, then I found your post about the tank swap, and made another to make room

I dont really mind having to cut and relocate one of the crossmembers considering the other modifications I'm going to be up to. I cant wait to see the pics of your tank once it's in. I'd also like to know how much all of the parts cost.

              TIA to both of you.
I can give you a breakdown of some of my expenses.

              Item and Price
              1. New 42 gallon suburban fuel tank $200 (included shipping)
              2. fuel tank check valves (you need 2) $25 (each)
              3. Fuel Tank sending unit/pickup tube $115
              4. Fuel pump $65
              5.Fuel Tank cover (Plastic) ??
              6. Fuel Tank Skid Plate ( ??
              7. Stainless steel tube (2/12 inch) $40
              8. Stainless steel metal plate $30

              Total $500

I will add the expenses for the other items and add the other items as soon as I can find the receipts or remember how much I pad for it all. (Whichever comes first)

I asked this question about both the 42 and 30 gallon tanks. May have been redundant of me, but I'm good at screwing stuff up when I think I know what I read. lol

GUISHE and WAGONEERLOVER ... these are looking really nice! I have been dreaming of trips I could pull off with a 42 gallon tank and getting about 28-30mpg! I might put another tank, like the stocker as my "reserve".

Thanks for the pics GUISHE and thanks for the cost breakdown WAGONEERLOVER

I left the trailer hitch i grabbed off a part out in Mobile. It is thedesign that hugs square to the frame instead of running Diagonal like the one that came with my wag. As soon as I get my dad to mail it And I get it installed I will be fiddling with the 30 gallon install. I ordered a sending unit for the same year my tank came from but I am hoping to be able to magically gerryrig my old sending unit into the new tank (can't know till I get it dropped and removed) if that fails I am hoping that somehow magically the wiring from the cheby sending unit will read properly on my guage.

I received my new hitch receiver so I started toying with the 30 gallon tank today. I am the plumbing and stuff will be just like yours since the intake is the same size as the 42. I will start it in a separate thread

I actually did something different with the inlet to the tank. Initially I used the copper reducer but I came up with a new and improved idea and adapted it. (Copper and metal apparently don't mesh together to well.) You can weld them together but supposedly it is a bad idea. (I am not a metalurgist or a chemical or a materials engineer so I wouldnt be able to verify this but from my research on the web it would appear that this is correct. I wound up using a metal tube and making an inlet from that.
