Gates hoses have always worked well for me. Last I knew they were still made in USA!

I have gates hoses on mine and they do not have springs. I do not have any issues cooling, either.

              30 YEARS OLD

My 1990 is all stock 107142 miles with factory 30 year oil hoses with factory spring lower hose. Just made a purchase fro rockauto and purchase goodyear lower. I will try to remove spring and install in new hose because I have a high volume pump and high flow thermostat . I drive with AC on high nonstop R12 and gauge goes 220 230 240 250 just below red line but does not overflow or pop pressure cap . rUNS beater when I beat the dog out of it goes good at 80 mph for old technology. Shouldn't need a spring but to get it in but think of it like a screw. See how if you hold it and turn it one direction it'll "screw" in?

Now turn it the other way when you push it in. This will collapse it so you can push it in.

Or hold each end and twist it. Note how in one direction the coils expand and in the other direction they get smaller.
