installing glove box lid, Question ?

1976 j10, metal glove box lid/door,.....

I plan to install glove box lid soon,....

is it better to attach hinges to lid/door first,...

or attach hinges to dash frame first, then to lid/door,....?

I fink I'd install the hinges on the dash first so as not to have to try to put the mounted hinges through the hole. Every thing snug but adjustable.

And tape around the door and hole so less likely to gouge the paint.
