    strange brake booster problem

about 2 weeks ago i heard a hissing from the brake booster on my 76 chero.i thought it was the vac hose grommet and replaced it but it got worse over the next couple of days.it was actually coming from a hole in the casting of the master cyl.it was not a crack or void in the casting but a hole much like the weephole in a waterpump.i cleaned it and put formagasket in it and it went away.is ths hole normal?

probably. it's be for the MC,so fluid doesn't get into the booster. you're gonna be sucking it in. that booster is blown.

not a good day, always hate it when that happens, last time it sucked the master cyl dry, had to replace both

RockAuto says it's unique to that era's FSJs.

New part from RockAuto is ca $96, plus a $25 core.

See if there is a booster rebuilder near you; if so, ask about cost.

                    Brake booster trouble

Same thing happened to mine, it started sucking in fluid......had to replace booster and master cylinder. Brake booster cost me dearly$$. Oh almost forgot, about rebuilding the booster, I asked at my local brake shop and was told to just buy a new one, I took that as it's probably just as costly to rebuild....don't know, I may be wrong.

so i replaced it 2 weekends ago.it seemed ok but it is still actually leaking(hissing)from the same hole in the master cyl.only thing now the hiss is constant when i push on the brake before it would go away untill the pedal came up again.
                      any ideas?

replaced with new or used? sounds like it also went bad?
