    1998 AX-15 behind a 360 in a 1975 J-10 ?

What are your opinions about using the AX-15 out of my rolled TJ in my 1975 J-10 ! I had planned on putting a T-18 in the truck, but, I just totaled my TJ and the thought is crossing my mind.

I've been running a '99 NV3550 behind my stroker for about 10 years. I've done some decent towing with it and a bit of wheeling here and there. What do you plan to do with the truck? The AX15 is no 1-ton trans, but it's reasonably beefy.

Just going to daily drive it and light wheeling. Nothing crazy. I run logging roads, fire lanes and such from time to time.
My friend has a NV3550 behind his HO 302 in a 1970 Bronco and has had no trouble. He wheels a lot harder than I ever will.
The most I'll ever do is tow my boat to the lake. (Less than 15-20 miles)
As far as my engine, it is a stock 360 4V with a 1406 Edelbrock carb. I am planning on doing the Howell or Holley Sniper EFI conversion. That and a set of headers would be as far as I'll ever take the engine.

Chevy put the NV3500, which is comparable in strength to the AX-15 and NV3550, in half ton trucks for quite a while. Unless you do something really stupid, you'll be just fine with the AX-15.

The driving experience is WAY better than any stock transmission offered in our rigs.

It is an interesting thought. The 4.0HO that came with most AX15s made quite a bit more power and a bit less torque than a smogger 360. And a SJ is not THAT much heavier than an XJ.

The AX15 wil handle the torque and weight without any doubt. If you were doing frequent heavy towing, Id monitor the trans temperature and add a cooler/pump if it was getting hot.
