Not much exciting to report on this week. As most of you on the east coast are painfully aware of, the weather was helacious this weekend. Long and short, cab was stripped in and out, parts were inventoried, and sorted for blasting. Taking a couple days off this week, hoping to get some blasting time in and pull the cab off. Boring pics in my FLICKR .

Had to take a little time this weekend to do some farm work. But got a bunch of small parts and some body panels sandblasted. Trans rebuild parts arrived along with some other good stuff from BJ's. Thanks again Ryan. Hoping to have the cab pulled and be down to the frame in a week or two. Thanks for watching.

been away for a bit, time for an update. Been rebuilding the th400 and soda blasting tons of parts. Slowly attacking the pile and moving them to a climate controlled space for now.

Been a bit since an update, but I've been keeping busy on this truck to keep momentum going. Tranny is rebuilt, working on the steering box right now, and the NP208 is next. I took a week off around the holiday to work on the farm and after chores were done spend a good deal of time burning midnight oil in the Honcho hospital. soda/ slag blasted a bunch of loose parts and started welding patches in. Skid plate for gas tank was a mess, I had two and still had to graft a lot of new metal on to make a good one.

also grafted a piece on to one of the bed skirts and filled in pin holes:

Then the fun part, pulled the truck back into the light for a bit. Lifted the cab off and put it on a nice home built dolly to move it around the shop easily.

That's all for this week, more to come in the next few weeks.

thanks Dave. Trying to get as much of the sheet metal done and primer before it gets cold. No heat in that shop. cold weather will be all about the motor and the axles. I'd like to be ready to paint once spring arrives. Slow and steady.. there is a plan.

time for an update. Steering box has been rebuilt:

waiting on a bearing and seal to finish up the t-case:

Built a booth in the shop to blast the cab and frame indoors:

cut the axles and springs off the frame:

Now, i'm 90% sure this is a Dana 60, but it has no markings on the tubes or on the casing saying so. The spring perches and the shock mounts have been moved. Honestly, it's in pretty bad shape. The perches are rotten and so are the backing plates. I haven't looked inside yet, but i don't have high hopes. may look for a newer replacement.

More to come, I have big plans for this coming weekend.

Thanks for viewing, comments are appreciated.

New installment: frame work. Finished blasting the frame this weekend. Gave every inch a brush coat of Permatex rust converter and shot it in Rust reformer primer. Ready for some necessary repairs and strengthening:

                    lighting stinks, sorry:

This area will need some attention. May remove the bracket, fishplate the outside, reweld bracket and box the rear of the frame.

the rear crossmember is crep. looking to cut it out and replace it with some U-channel if i can find it locally. no replacement crossmember exists in the FSJ universe that i know of...

all for now, more to follow

Is that an actual Red Head steering box or did you paint it that way? If Red-Head, I didn't know that did our boxes!

Rang, a Saginaw box is common in lots of different rigs. There's nothing special about Wagoneer boxes. Just saying.

Fleetfox, nice job on the rebuild of the box. Most people, including me, would rather exchange for a rebuilt unit. It's easier. Lol.
1974 Cherokee S. It's driving but needs more work. As usual!

it's a stock box rebuild. i just painted the head while I had it apart... i cheated... the rebuild kit was so inexpensive and I had the tools. Plus I had just finished the TH400, so confidence was running high. I have time during the week to work on components like this at home. Weekends are spent on big stuff in the bigger shop.

New update. The rear of the frame was pretty pitted around the shackle hangers. So I cut those off and fish plated the frame in and out. Then rewelded the hangers back on:

new cab mount tops. giving me a massive 3/16 body lift:

The rear crossmember was twisted, cracked, welded and rotted. So I bot this YJ front bumper, cut it down and spent 2 hours boring holes on the press and shaping it with a grinder.

And Finally, shot it with gloss black:

All done, ready for springs. Axles are up next
