    np 229 and np 228

    what is the diffrence between np 229 and np 228 besides the viscous coupling...so if its the same can i just take the open diff out of the 228 becouse i got one for free and put it in my 229 becouse i cracked my viscous coupling

    Thats it. The 228 has an open diff and the 229 has a viscous coupling.

        Just clean the case out real good, get all the gray goop out of it.

        The 228 diff won't like that stuff.

          I could have sworn that there was a slight difference in overall length between the 228 and 229 when I had them on a bench side by side. I seem to recall that the 228 was visibly shorter, maybe only 3/4". Direct swap, but minutely diferent. Was that in my head?

            i got it on there and put it all back together but one of the needle bearings fell down in the way while tightning and i broke one of the ears off so i took the 228 case and put it on there and it bolted rite up..im gunna put it on tomarrow
