    Paint prep hell

This is just a general venting post about how difficult paint prep is on these things. I had no idea.

I underestimated both how much rust I have on my Chief and how much work it is to eliminate it. Holy smokes. I started digging into the old seam sealer (of which there is plenty) and inside nearly every inch of seam is more rust. It

it is a bear but the hard work will pay off

      always heard it said that
a paint jobs success is 95% what is under the paint,.....the prep.

I ran into the same thing on my truck, it was a huge pain but eventually you will get there and have something to be proud of.

Yup, get ready to scrape every bit of that seam sealer out. Unfortunately you wont be able to remove the rust deep in the seems so some por15 or equivalent would be good to put in those areas before the new seem sealer. Good luck, your hard work will pay off.

Oh man, and all the little lines, and curves, and angles. When I see a FSJ with arrow straight lines and perfectly flat areas that are supposed to be perfectly flat, I know someone spent years of man labor sanding on that rig.

I knew I'd find solace here. I appreciate the encouragement. Full steam ahead. Starting body filler this week!

In each corner of the windshield frame, there are these square pockets, and I don't know what was filling them before, whether it was seam sealer or part of the sealer that's used with the windshield seal. Anyone know if these should be filled in?
