    Need help axle seals

    Guys,

I'm having to replace the stub axle on the right hand side of the rig. There was no outer axle seal to speak of where the inner axle enters the axle tube.

Should there be any bearing on the output of the axle? Can you help me with a part number for the outer axle seal?

    Thanks!

any parts store will have them(outer seal) very common seal.
no bearing on shaft but there is one inside the spindle.

you can buy kits with just seals or seals + spindle bearings

age and likely poor maintenance? i'd do both sides & bearings.

So I got a ujoint for the stub axle and I think it's too big. It's a Dana Spicer 5-760x. It is clearly larger in size than what is currently in the old stub axle. Same cup size but larger cross size. I'm a little bit perplexed.

I know looking at the ujoint there's no way the circlips will engage on both sides of the axle bores.

760X should be the correct joint. It's the replacement for the original 297X joint that the Jeep came with. Boxed wrong maybe?

Also, there is NO seal where the inner axle enters the tube.

Truth, 760X should fit...the seal is inside the diff.....just outside of the carrier/gears.

One of the greatest issues involved w/ replacing axle joints...By the time you press/beat the joints out, you have swaged the ears inward......Takes a skilled guy to make them fit...
