Cummins mentioned a crate 5.0 Diesel

I was watching an interview of Steve Sanders (Cummins Repower Project Manager) at SEMA this year and he mentioned they are thinking about doing a crate version of their 5.0 that's in the Titan XD. The R2.8 is a bit small for our rigs (would be perfect, IMHO, for a CJ5) but the 5.0 would be PERFECT for us. From Cummins website:
"Generating 310 horsepower with 555 pound-feet of torque"

    Here's the video I watched:
We are talking Cummins power at the 2017 SEMA Show.

Most of it is the typical Cummins R2.8 talk, but if you forward to about 17:25

We should all log into Cumminsrepower.com and tell them to build the R5.0! if the R2.9 is about $9k, I would assume a 5.0 would be about $11k. Not that I could afford that in the next 10 years but if they build it, in about 10 years, there will be used ones on the market...

It's basically that 5.0 that's in the Nissan truck?

        Meh. Diesels shouldn't be in a V configuration...unless they're a Detroit. INLINE FOR A GOOD TIME!

If it's a gasser, sure. I like my gas V8's and my diesels like tractor motors.

              Cummins 5.0 diesel is junk

As someone who spends a lot of time on a Cummins dock, the scuttlebutt is Nissan is not happy with that diesel. I would not be surprised to see that diesel motor discontinued. If they do offer it as a repower option give it several years to work the bugs out. And maybe let the Chinese manufacturer it for a year or two, like the little four banger.
