QuadraTrac Aftermarket chains (poking the sleeping bear)

Ive looked around and read alot of chains my QT in the 74 is a jumping and a banging only when Jon drives it tho

So I figured I should get a new one I like the 16% OD option but I've been hearing nightmarish problems with anything aftermaket with the chains Just wondering if I should go find another good working unit and roll the dice. Or Attempt a repair ?????

The chineese chain fixed the skipping problem but when my brother and his son were out at my place for thanksgiving, they didn't want to try "chinese quadratrac chain test hill". I wouldn't let my dog ride up that hill with me. I will give it a mud run by myself soon. Its the last 80' that makes you ponder your true reasoning for attempting this crazy clay cow crap hill. Incredibly, its much easier in the mud. When the wheel speed decreases to nothing is when it gets scary. and its all in the last few feet, when you need wheel speed to overcome the straight verticle clay. The chinese chain is working fine but it sometimes gives me the "WILLYS"

It may be a bit off topic, but why is it chains seem to go bad so often in qtrac cases? But not in the np cases?

Chain in a New Process is only being used in 4wheel drive QT all the power goes through the chain then to the front and rear axle

When you mention the 16% OD, just a reminder that is a different spool gear too. Good luck finding a MM kit. I dunno about these chains. If you can't get a Morse chain, then one of these is probably better than a busted QT.

while they aren't as good as the Morse chains, they are the only option for a new chain. As Flint says, a chinese chain is better than a busted case.

Ryan, I thought you or someone else said that Crown was working to improve the quality of their chains. Any truth (or proof) to that? If so, are there any markings that differentiate 'gen 1' vs 'gen 2' Crown chains?

that is what we've been told is that these have a higher quality control than previous chains. No markings that I know of.

Although I am not as experienced with jeeps, I have only had mine for almost a year, I can say that is seems like morse chains are like finding a good women.....once you stop looking whamooo you find her!

I couldn't resist. It's our 10 year anniversary today. And last month I found a morse chain on Craig's List for $100. On both accounts I am extremely grateful!!

So what if someone came up with a tensioner of some kind? I read that lack of a tensioner is why the chains don't last compared to modern cases.
