alternatives to OEM door panel clips

has anyone ever used a different,...
more user friendly clip for door panels

....or the rear side cargo panels on interior
so removal would not be so hard on the panels when prying out the clips

one member once suggested trying magnetic strips to hold
interior side cargo panels on instead of the clips,

i thought that was a good idea

    any suggestions or tips appreciated.

    velcro strips work well...

If the OEM metal clips have torn loose, even using the newer plastic ones is sketchy.

They sell some extreme velcro strips and backing is STICKY and separation is pretty difficult.
Very low risk of further damaging panels on removal.

Go to Lowes or your local hardware store and you can get trim screws in black or chrome. If you have black interior they blend in perfectly and are so much easier. You can always spray paint them for other interior colors too

thanx for the two great ideas

        from baby-wag and kansas-boy

now i have to choose which one to try,.....

maybe both, since i have a donor wagoneer to try them out on.

wish i could post photos,... putting finishing touches on the interior

and all the individual things coming together is easy on the eyes...

like all the polished rub strips on new carpet in cargo area and tailgate.

trim screws worked best for me.
i could not make magnets, velcro, etc work.

did not use any factory panel clips at all.

          thanx for the advice.

I glue the clip to the damaged panel with gorilla glue so they don't come off the cardboardish panel. It expands like foam so just a little drop. It reenforces the old material.

I use nylon prybars to remove clips from the metal. Works well.

I've tried gluing mine but it is a PITA to line up just right and I end up mushing the clips. Im going to try velcro now.

Velcro ended up leaving too much of a gap, magnets didnt work either. Im thinking of making a template to get the clips to line up on holes properly then epoxy the clips to the backing board.

I have used small plastic insert similar to the license plate inserts , I trimmed the square end to fit the round holes .... the hardest part is the alignment of the screws with the new inserts, it works and make for easy removal and installation. Use screws with countersunk finish washer.

For my cargo panel I wanted something that would release easier than the stock clips. I used a rubber grommet in the original hole and elevator bolts.

                        Attached to the panel:

                        Test mounting panel:

                        Completed:

That is a clever setup, thanks for the pictures. Do you have specs or part numbers for the bolts and grommets by chance?

Here we go, the clip is the smaller version of the license plate clip

you will have to trim the inside square as pictured, the outside pointing ears are the corner that have to be trimmed with cutting pliers

                            and the result
