How to guarantee an oil leaker...LMAO

Tired of the wagon marking it's territory on my driveway.
Still not finished with engine rebuild, figured I'd throw a new pan gasket @ it.

Hopefully this is not the work of someone working @ a shop , and a PO??

    JEEZ! Oh my goodness...

So the corner that was leaking the most, no spacer, and torn/ripped.

Where it was leaking @ middle of pan, missing spacers, and torn between 3 bolt holes.

Was leaking around dipstick opening in block, gasket torn. Probably too lazy to pull tube?

The gasket coated on both sides with a crapload of RTV.

Seriously? Why? Going through all that work KNOWING it's gonna leak like hell...some folks ya gotta wonder WTF?
Looking through the service records I didn't see this repair listed. So may have been a PO and not a shop/mechanic(I HOPE!)?

Luckily all the RTV peeled right off the block/timing/cover/rear main housing/oil pan, and clean up was easy.
New oil pan I bought is damaged though, so have to wait on resolution of that or I might just re-use the old pan. There was zero sludge in bottom, and the pickup screen is clear. So not going to bother with screen or the pump.

So if ya ever want to guarantee a leaker...
1- Do NOT clean properly, be sure to leave oil/dirt/crud everywhere.
2- Generously slather RTV on both sides of the gasket.
3- Be sure the gasket is damaged(missing spacers, and torn in several places). It helps to reuse an old gasket, do NOT use a new one.
4- Make sure you do NOT torque to specs, key here is a random pattern of tightening to various values.

    That's special.

Making me afraid from what I may find when I track down the remaining leaks in my rebuilt engine.

The worst, now fixed, wait for it, using teflon pipe tape in an attempt to seal the drain plug. That was done on the engine stand, pan dry, then they installed and filled it. Told me it may need an oversize plug. Uh duh. Every think of looking at what was on in there before? Sigh.

Not mine I fix oil pan leaks by welding the pan to block. Never had one leak yet.

In high school a buddy jbwelded his...true story LOL.
Same guy broke off some head bolts ?torquing? them on different car.
When we asked him initially if he torqued the heads down, his reply was ?boy did I ever?. We laughed @ time, and still funny 30yrs later.

WOW, that's just terrible. I'm sure it was just way too hard for them to get a new gasket from an auto parts store...

              So they did THAT.

We had an old man working for us that used a impact gun on putting in spark plugs. He was a WWII vet that hated anything Japanese.
