CTO elimination question

I know plenty of folks here advocate for bypassing the CTOs on our smog-equipped V-8s, and it seems like a good idea. I've figured out how to route the vacuum hoses, but what should I do with the CTOs themselves? Just leave them in place, or do you guys know of an effective way to replace them with plugs?

Pretty sure they're just common pipe thread. Take it down to your hdw store and match it up.

Make sure you check your dmv inspection requirements. Some states will ding you if certain emissions components are missing. They don't care if they're
Bypassed or inop...just as long as they're there.

DMV inspection

good point, though that's not a problem in VT. They only really care if there's enough rust-through that exhaust gases get inside your vehicle. Other than that, it's the typical turn signals, headlights, horn.

X2. That's what I did with mine. Replaced the CTOs with pipe blanks, or whatever you call them. It de-clutters the intake nicely.

They should be 3/8-18 NPT pipe plugs. I used S/S ones when I plugged mine. You can see one in this pic that I used temporarily while I painted my intake.

If you still ruin the EGR, the CTO keeps it from opening cold and causing stumble.

early water neck

for a slightly cleaner LOOK (totally aesthetic) you can get a water neck from an early AMC V8 without the outlet...
