will j4000 styleside bed fit j3000 truck

hi all , hoping for some guidance and hopefully confirmation i am right

a friend and i have had a long winded argument about the j3000 style side bed vs j4000 style side bed
as he wishes to buy a j4000 bed and fit it to his j3000 truck

the argument consists of the fact
i believe that the j4000 tub will not fit a j3000 wheel base as the tub has the wheel arch in the wrong place
he believes that all he has to do is cut (i believe 5 -6") out of the bed forward of the rear wheels ,and it will be just like factory
i am of the impression that the j3000 bed was 8 foot long and the rear wheels where centered in the middle of the bed, and that the j4000 bed was also 8 foot long but the rear wheel tubs had been moved towards the back on the j4000
so now am after a definitive answer
dose anyone know ??

The difference is the 126" wheelbase and the 131" wheelbase.
The 8' bed on the 126" wheelbase model has the wheels centered, just like the 7' bed. They will also be single-wall construction.
Beds on the 131" wheelbase models have the wheels back the 5", and are double-wall construction.

Don't know how much fudge factor there is but my first guess would be won't fit at least as a direct bolt-on The 3000 series(35000-37000) WB was 126" except for the J-3800 which was 132"WB but that truck is really rare with DRW). All the 4000 series had a 132" WB. That's US built trucks, no idea what they did in OZ or elsewhere.
