Trans Swap Question

The transmission in my '90 Wagon has lost second gear. I bought an '84 Wagon with a good transmission. And of course after I bought the parts Wagon, I realized it uses the Ford style starter and the '90 uses the Motorola starter. Is the starter bolt pattern the same on the transmissions?

Transmissions are the same '80-'91.
Flexplate, starter, and wiring is the difference.

Would your original go through first fine, then slip through second then finally go into third?

Just wondering cause if the front band never gets adjusted it will become loose and a little pawl (looks like a metal wedge) can fall out. It's worth the cost of fluid and filter kit. But then again you could swap trannys and fix that one and have a spare.
