Question

I'm getting my tranny flushed and getting Redline Synthic ATF put in it, does anyone now how many qts this will take? At $8.00 a qt I'd like to be prepared to explain to the wife why I spent $100 on oil!!!!

O'by the way it's a Turbo 400 with a trans cooler. Thanks!!!

Since there's no way to remove the oil from the TC without removing it from the tranny (having the shop flush it would be a good idea since the oil in the TC will be fresh) and I'm assuming that the tranny is in the vehicle, you will only need about 5 quarts.

Get a drain plug kit for the oil pan too.

While you're at it and have the pan off, put in a shift kit (they're easy on the th400), only another $28, well worth having.

I'm having the whole system flushed, I was just wondering if anyone had an idea on how many qts it will take to flush it. Shiftkit is already installed, I love it by the way, a most for th400!

Thanks, I thought it was that, the Jeep manual says 11 with a overhaul, but I thought that was a little low. Has anyone tried synthic in there auto tranny yet?

I got mobil 1 syn atf in my 727. I watched the flush machine do it. The oil cleaned up at about 11 quarts, but I had already loaded the machine w/ 13. The tranny now runs noticably cooler and the rough but firm shifts that appeared after I installed the shift kit years ago have lost some of their jerk. The way it shifts now is actually what I was shooting for w/ the shift kit. The shifts aren't quite as radical - not desired when out on a date.

1BAD401, I was thinking about getting a shift kit for my TH400, what kind is yours? What do you like about it? What do you have to do to install it?

Sorry for all the questions, but I appreciate any help you could give me.

When we rebuilt the motor we sent the tranny to a tranny shop in Yakima, Washington. They have done tranny work us for years, mainly on our race cars. I believe it's a transgo kit, we also had them bearing it. It shifts real firm on full throttle and has a nice shift on normal driving. In my TH400 in my Buick, I installed the B&M shift kit in that, it was pretty basic, a couple of check balls and some springs. The usually have pretty good instructions with them. Sorry I really can't help you out more, trannies have never been my thing!!!
