    OEM Radio Options in 1967

Was there any other radio options in 1967 other than AM and the single dash speaker?

That's about it. I think some of the other automakers had phonograph and FM options, along with reverb and rear speakers. But stereo would be another few years in coming for most folks. I think Gonset and a couple of others may have made FM converters as aftermarket accessory back into the days of vacuum tubes, but those took until the late '70s to become commonplace as solid state devices about the size of a pack of cigarettes. Not sure about any automaker specific brands of those...

For the record I dispensed with all this speculation and trying to keep my ride original (My '68 had the delete plate) and I took a nibbler tool and removed dash metal to fit a DIN sleeve. After all I'm using my Waggy, and I like good audio.

None and barely. AM radio at best, but the block-off plate probably worked better...

For what it's worth, I've done like Dave with all the FSJs I've kept for myself. Trim the dash for a decent receiver at the very least. I've never spent anymore than for something I'll be able to listen to, but for at least that much.

www.crutchfield.com is a good source for audio and installation parts/kits.

You just have to know how to shop...

speakers are a little more work, pods behind the seat work well if you don't want to hack up your door panels.

Thanks for verifying my fears. I may try the AM. I'm a sucker for nostalgic. Shoot I have a Victrola in my living room! Of course it's not far from my Harmon Kardon 5.1 either though. I do value good sound. This is not a daily driver. We will take it through Glacier National Park a few times a year, take a drive around Flathead Lake to get cherries with the family, maybe an ice cream run...... Besides with the wind, road, and drive line noise it would probably be wasted monies if I bought anything nicer than a AM.

put a purdy non working oem radio in, then put in a nice remote control rig somewhere it isn't seen. the best of both worlds
