my Dad used to nickel plate stuff..seen his stuff 25 years later (guns)..no tarnish. Granted guns aren't engines but..I wouldn't paint it If it ever started flaking, even clear coat, it'd look like CRAP. If the plating is porous or rough, maybe smooth it out a little with a buffer pad on a dremel so the gunk (if you have any) doesn't build up in it..but the plating should be smooth and fine as is. Shoot once all your accessories are on there, you won't be seeing much of it anyways...

        just my 2 cents..

jeepsr4ever, if you make cover plates for all the sealing surfaces, you can hav it powdercoated. Oh wait Summit and sears sell home powder coating rigs, and a t/c is small enough to fit in an oven.

Nickle is used as an anti-corrosive coating and is tough stuff. It should be just fine. That sure is pretty. I picked up one of their nickle-coated thermostat housings and it looks pretty good, too.

I think the nickle will protect the water pump ports from electrolesis.

i wouldn't paint it or clear coat it. seeing that it is nickel coated alum, it will help to disapate some of the heat fromt eh coolant, even though its not a lot of space.

and besides, it looks really cool.

Sorry Dave. I think you should leave it like it is. However, make up some kind of crate base so it won't tip over and mount on a 2'x4' plexiglass top to the intake and use it as a coffee table or something that can always be seen. Would make for a great conversation piece and no one can argue that it's not art. Way too pretty to hide away under a hood!

Thought it would be simple, forgot it was a Jeep.

It will hold up great! Ni is known for its abrasion and corrosion resistance. It will help from electrolysis and resist any coolant grooves from cavitation.
