Yes, your math is correct.
LS1 rocker puts the pushrod seat .040" lower than the AMC rocker from my '90. The AMC rocker ratio measured 1.605, LS rocker 1.715. That's just straight measuring the rocker, not the actual valve lift vs lobe lift measured with a test spring (my engine is still in pieces).
I'm going with the summit K8600 camshaft kit which as .080 smaller base circle on exhaust, .050 on the intake. So I may be able to reuse the factory pushrods on the exhaust and compress the lifter .015 more on the intake.
But the heads, deck were touched, different brand lifters, who knows how the head gasket thickness matches the oem, so I'll find out when I assemble.

Curious if anything came of this, or has the project been shelved?

My engine is together with the factory rockers and pushrods, just changed the oil after break-in. I'll get to swapping in the LS rockers eventually.

I am beginning the engine rebuild process and am going to dive into this too. Ordered a set of Procomp stainless, adjustable LS rockers in a 1.8 ratio to try. The adjustable pushrod seat should fix any minor pushrod issues. I will let you know how it looks after I get the heads back from the machine shop. I got them cheaper than this, but these are the same ones.

I got a complete Comp 268H cam kit. 1.8 will put the valve lift at .513, which is only another .057". I got these for less than it would have cost me to replace them with factory rockers so if they work out it's a win. If they don't work I can probably sell them to someone at work. We have a lot of LS guys here.

Well preliminary fitment looks good. Just bolted them on a head, no cam. The roller tip is in the very center of the valve stem and the spacing is correct. Won't know until I get the motor assembled if I will need custom push rods or if shimming of the pedestal will be necessary.
