How to? '73 Dash Pad Removal Forever...

I would like to remove the cracked dash pad on my '73 Wagoneer. What does the dash look like under the pad? Is it mostly metal like the earlier models? Can I just weld up some holes and paint? Your help is appreciated?

It's all metal with about 14 holes.

Six across the edge facing back, two on each side, two to the right of the center area and two at the bottom of the pad in front of the passenger.

Also two that mount the grab bar on Cherokees.

They're oblong about 5/16" x 1/2" except the four in front of the passenger.

My '84 had some wrinkles in the forming around the center area.

Also, your instrument panel will have gaps where it meets the pad.

'84 GW with Nissan SD33T, early Chev NV4500, 300, narrowed Ford reverse 44, narrowed Ford 60, SOA/reversed shackle in fornt, lowered mount/flipped shackle in rear.

Don't forget the 6x8" oval speaker hole and it's bolt holes right in the middle.
