Hey
I scored an awesome pushbar off a 70/80's Suburban the other day, and I was wondering what sort of trouble I will get into trying to put it on my 78 J-10. What is the frame width on the Suburban? I doubt the jeep god will smile upon me enough to make it similar to my jeep, which incidently, if anyone knows the outer framerail to outer frame rail width I would appreciate it. My J-10 is currently with my parents, as my mother was driving it last week. Thnaks a lot for any help.

Sounds to me like 'BURB' brushguards will fit a FSJ !!

Well, tonight I finally got the chance to check out the Bumper/pushbar/100lb pile o' metal. It measures 28.5" from outer edge of the mounting brackets. So I am headed to the drawing board as to how to mount it up. There is 7" of differece between the overall width outside to outside of the Jeep(thanks guys) and the mounts on the bar. I'm guessing 2" of width for the rail themselves. So that leaves 3". I'd have to grind the mounts off just to move them in 3". what should I do? Should I have some extra steel welded in beside the existing and bolt through it all? Or should I grind the mounts off and go from there. I'd love to keep my 3 piece bumper on the truck, but would that require cuttig through the bumper? Argh! such decisions. Thanks for you help. I'll try to get some pictures up soon! It is awesome.

Will it work if you use some steel tubing between them??? Maybe 2" X 3" tubing???

Thumbs up

For those searching for the "brush guard/100# pile of metal". I scored one off of a '91 full size Dodge truck. Fits like a champ on my '85 Grand Wag. I can't use the same mount holes, of course, but being able to use a drill is a prerequisite for an FSJ. Also, Killer 32 Fabrications makes custom bumpers, brush guards for the FSJ. If any of this is already common knowledge, I apologize. Still pretty new.

If my Jeep can't get me where I want to go the way it sits, then I need to modify it some more. After all, Jeeps owners can do anything!

So now I have dilemma. The distance between the mounting plates on the pushbar-28.5. Distance innner rail to inner rail on my rig, 29.5 inches. Maybe I should make spacers out of 1/2" steel plate and run a plate of steel over the top? Or will this compromise strength. I need guidance by some welders. Thanks,

Daniel

Sorry I took soo long... I've been busy with night school and my three boys are in soccer as well....

My frame is 37.5" wide in the back and 34.5" in the front (outside dimensions)

Frank Almaas has a GREAT bumper bracket he fabbed on his site http://www.fullsizejeep.com/

download his drawings... it will give you great insight on new mounting brakcets....I will be using the drawings myself...someday...
