Umm not quite. I replaced my 76 44HD front drive plates(ex QT truck) w/ 3/4ton Ford Warn hubs.#9074 I believe.

My 77 44HD (non QT truck) utilized the smaller 1/2 ton chevy style hubs.

The older, large pattern 6 stud(3/8in stud) style hub takes the larger hub as compared to the smaller 6 bolt(internal threaded hole) style hub assembly.

So a 44 is a 44 is a 44 is absolutely untrue.
Depending on which hub style, he may have either.

I meant they aren't vehicle specific. D44HD is 3/4 almost 1 ton.

Well that's the point not vehicle specific and not 44HD specific.

The 77 44HD took the same hub as the 44 from a J10 or chero.
So in all reality, from what he said, I would tend to think that someone converted the older 44 as I did my 76 and had to use the larger Ford style hub,,which should answer his original question.
