    Auto trans from 83 Chief into a 79 J20

I have picked up a 79 J20 Truck project that has axles from an 82 J20 so it's a driver drop diff. The 79 currently has an auto trans with a quadratrac behind a 360 which works with a pass drop diff. I have an auto trans and NP208 tcase from a 1983 Cherokee Chief that was also behind a 360. Will the auto trans from the 83 bolt to the 79 360? I also will be getting the driveshafts from the 82 J20 the axles came from so I think I will be ok there.

yes, it will work - you need linkage and flexplate for the 727 too though and the lever on steering column shifter is slightly different between 727 and 400 equipped rigs

I have a steering column from a 76 waggy so what about just swapping out the NP208 tcase for the quadratrac? I think someone told me that the output shaft from the transmission to the tcase was different between the two?

can't mix the t400/qt with 727/np2xx - pretty sure the steering column part can be dealt with pretty easy tho
