Tranny advise needed - To reseal or rebuild

Tranny has been leaking a little from the front pump seal. It has been getting worse, so I took it to a local tranny shop sxpecting to spend $400 or so......

$850 to reseal and new converter

$1250 to do a complete rebuild

Thanks for your suggestions!!!
What do you think about the prices??

To change the front pump seal, either the transmission has to come out, or the engine has to come out.

$400 to R&R
$200-$300 for a new converter? (I have no idea what they cost!)
Shop supplies, labor for converter install, new filter and fluid...

$850 sounds about right, IMHO. EXPENSIVE, but right.

$1250 for a rebuild sounds CHEAP if it included the R&R. (Removal and replacement)

That sounds high, but well aware how much prices vary across the country. One trans we had the shop do the R&R. Cost was $800.00

Another time, we dropped the trans and hauled it to the same shop. Complete rebuild was $150.00

Granted, we may have gotten the frequent transmission rebuild discount.

Way more than i'd ever pay. Do it yourself if you have the ability & tools to remove/lower the tranny. New filter, fluid, pump seal, & your time. Grand total of what.......$50 if your time is free. Skip the converter. Unnessary if the old one was working.

I am just getting back to my computer, went fishing near Mountain Home Arkansas. Beautiful part of the country!

Thanks for all the replies!

I guess I may go ahead and have the tranny rebuilt. The tranny is alrady out of the Wag at his shop, which I already have to pay for that... what makes me nervous is having tranny issues in the near future and having to pay to pull it out again.

This is devinitely a love/hate relationship I am having with this vehicle!
