    upper radiator support 1976 j-10

not sure if it is a radiator support but:

when you open hood of a 1976 j-10

where the top of razor grill bolts into metal brace above radiator

that brace runs the width of front end

it has a raised hump/arched section in middle

if that piece was cut or cracked completely in-two at the end of the arch,

is that single piece obtainable alone or is it connected to the entire front core support or front facia panel with headlight openings

if not have you ever seen this happen can broken one be fixed ?

    ( not much of a mechanic and I can't post photos )

    any help appreciated.

V8 or 6? A replacement core support should be easy to source. Pretty sure that's what you need.

      V8
the cut is clean as can be
      darnedest thing I ever saw.

so that top brace is not made into the large front facia panel all
      fsj's share ?

with the large holes for headlights
and holes where pie pans go on rhino front ends

not sure of correct term for it.

      thanx

As I recall it's all part of the core support. They are pretty much the same over the years, except for the difference between 6 and V8. The V8s have a wider radiator. There is no seperate part between the fenders except for the small bol-on bits like the hood latch and stuff. Minor changes in brackets to hold the grille. Any FSJ with a razor grille can be a donor, if you don't want to massage the little brackets and such.

My later J10 has an inner core support stamping (the width of the front), and an outer full width valance (the one with the holes where the head lights attach).

The inner stamping is spot welded to the vertical posts either side of the radiator, and the radiator bolts to it. Again, the outer stamping is where the later grill and headlights attach. In any case, I'd have the crack welded. (I actually cut the hump out of the outer stamping because I wanted to change the look of the front end. The remaining end pieces are now connected by some small thin pieces of channel, which are in turned covered by a new piece of sheet metal that is formed to create a scoop look for the hump in the hood. The bar trim bar across the opening is removed and holes in the hood are filled.
