After searching off and on for 3 years it finally happened. I have my first Woody Wagoneer!!!
I looked at this Jeep in Tulsa a few weeks ago at a small one man dealership. This was his second time selling it after buying it back from the PO who had it for years. The owners before that completely repainted the car, replaced the faux wood paneling and pulled and "freshened up the motor" (I'm not sure what it entailed). Its a 1989 with 101k original miles.
My test drive in Tulsa left me stranded on the highway (sticking fuel gauge) and the dealer was very apologetic. Also had a few little things like the front passenger door not opening from the inside, and the rear window needs assistance to go all the way down. Good bargaining chip items, and things I can get my feet wet with the new make and chassis. He was asking $4500 for it, a decent deal considering the condition, but above what I had budgeted for one.
I was able to get him to come down quite a bit, and have it delivered to Wichita for free. I just picked it up this afternoon, and I'm absolutely elated. The AC works great, it has a fantastic throaty acceleration, and the stereo is very nice as well.
It is so nice to start with a nice example of a vehicle for a change. Usually I get ones with a long to-do list. I'm also excited for cheaper parts, and using the standard side of my tool kit.
