HOOD BAR WITH RHINO

if you put an earlier gladiator valance panel on for rhino swap on a 1976
do you need a late model hood bar, so you can use a hood release cable
to open hood

since the rhino grille limits access to the hood bar lever in center.

I know these details have been covered many times
and I have read a lot of old posts and threads form several sites

still,.....any help appreciated.

Not sure what you're attempting. The Rhino grilles needed the clearance bump in the hood w/o bar to close the hood. The release latch lever is accessed through the grille. The filler bar wasn't used till they used the shorter razor grille.

you can install a hood release cable set up or find the original hand release for the rhino that is accessed through the grill.

I have a Rhino on my '83, and retained the factory inside release system.

think I realized what Joe is saying

I guess once the hood trim bar (used on hood with razor to fill gap )
is removed, you have no trouble getting to the latch, correct ?

I am mechanical challenged, can do a few cosmetic things
but not the best at wrenching.

Rhino uses a different lever system. Access by reaching into the grille slats about mid-grille or so.

When I added a rhino grille I modified the existing lever to accept a 1/4" rod. I simply cut the lever off and welded a short length of tubing on to the remaining base. I keep a rod handy in my cab for opening the hood.

three-piece

I used to do that.
on my 88 wagoner before I fixed th e"phantom lock issue"
I would get locked out
w/ engine running

so I kept homage device to pop the hood

hope to do something less taxing on my old nerves.
and something less likely to scratch the truck
once I get it fixed. up some.

but I know where you coming from !

I think there are a lot of ways to tackle it but if you close the hood and didn't change the hood release or modify the existing release to extend down through the header/core support it is a huge pain to get the hood released. My solution was to buy an early hood release and cut a hole for it. I believe you can drill a hole in the original hood release handle and the header and just use a long bolt or possibly just bend the existing one down a bit but I found an early hood release pretty cheap so didn't bother trying.
